The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution Review

So you know how we love taking beauty back to basics. The Ordinary are a skincare / beauty brand that have instilled this ethos. "ripping back unnecessary packaging and misleading ingredients, The Ordinary offers an abundance of brilliant, high-performance products at eye-wideningly reasonable prices. Making it easy to curate a 'skin care wardrobe' "

Guess what?...Everything is super cheap too with their highest priced item being £14.

So naturally with a affordable brand the ultimate test is to see if it's any good. I let you guys vote on my Instagram stories a few weeks back and pick which item I would try first from their collection and 86% of you wanted to know about the peeling solution.

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution £6.30

First Impressions

So initially when this arrived I was shocked at how much like blood this product looks, if blood or the appearance of blood makes you squeamish then this product might not be for you. Although the consistency and colour inside is a thick dark pink substance.

It advises to do a patch test before to see if you have a dramatic reaction to the acids, i.e your hand melts off. Which I can confirm, mine did not.

Now I am not a newbie to acid peels so I felt quite optimistic using this, It is quite simple to use. Just use your finger tips to apply in an even layer over a clean dry face and rinse after 10 mins. What could go wrong?

AHAs Make your skin sensitive to sunlight, but you don't have to panic and shy away. Just use them at nighttime and incorporate SPF into your routine ( if it isn't there already)

So what are AHAs + BHAs ?

"Alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs) exfoliate the skin’s topmost layer for a brighter, more even appearance, while beta hydroxyl acids (BHAs) exfoliate the skin more deeply to clear pore congestion – together, they radically improve the appearance of the skin’s texture and reduce the look of fine lines."

The Ordinary's Peeling Solution is infused with Tasmanian pepperberry to reduce inflammation, as well as a crosspolymer form of hyaluronic acid for comfort, Vitamin B5 to assist healing and black carrot as an antioxidant. So it is essentially a facial peel in a bottle without the horrible after effects of one you would normally get.

My Experience

So I have been using this for a few weeks now just to be sure of how I felt and give the chance for any benefits to show. Upon initial Application you can feel it tingling on your skin, which can be quite irritating but that comes with the use of any acids, exfoliators or peels so you expect that. Plus I really enjoyed freaking my fiance out at the sight of my 'bloody' appearance too which is always a bonus.

After each time I have used this it has left my face quite red so It either irritates my skin or works, I am yet to decided on that.

I have also noticed that after each use I break out and not just a little breakout either & for somebody who puts her face all over social media its not ideal to keep doing that to my skin but it could be the peeling solution extracting dirt and dead skin cells so I will have to test it for longer to decide.

What I did notice with this is that after each use loads of gunk would come out of the pores of my nose over the next few days which was oddly satisfying. I have also noticed that the skin around my nose breaks out and progressively peels for the first day or so but looks flawless after.

In terms of the rest of my face, My face peeled lightly after the first use but I hasn't done so since the first time and I am yet to achieve the 'radiance' that is promised after, just breakouts. But I will continue to use it twice a week for at least 2-3 months to give it a thorough testing because I am really hoping this changes my skin.

Would I recommend this?

For the fact that It extracts the gunk out of my nose I would purchase it for that alone, it has been more effective at clearing my blackheads than any product i have ever used ( and that is alot) If you have a big event to go to, do not use this prior as it may break you out.

I will update my long term usage thoughts on this as i'm not entirely sure I can decide how I feel about this for full face usage yet due to the fact my skin rarely breaks out and since I have been using this my cheeks especially hate me.
